For the first time in the nation’s history, a woman has been elected to serve as Vice President of the United States.  The Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia (“WBA”) congratulates Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris on her historic achievement.

In a moment of extreme divisiveness, the WBA is heartened and encouraged by the history made by Vice President-Elect Harris, a Black- and Indian-American woman lawyer, and a first-generation American, who has risen to an unprecedented level of power in American government.

Representation matters – it matters when policy decisions are being made, and it matters when young girls and women imagine and seek to realize their paths and potential.  Regardless of political party, there is no disputing the importance of this historic moment to women and people of color.
