Dear Members,

These are challenging times. In the last six weeks, we have witnessed numerous attacks on and other actions in opposition to the core values that the Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia (WBA) has stood for over its more than 100-year history. At the same time, we have seen an aggressive series of measures aimed at drastically changing the federal workforce, creating uncertainty for many of our members.

As members of the WBA, we have long stood together in support of women’s equality, the rule of law, diversity in the legal profession, DC statehood, and unrestricted access to healthcare (see our Issue Statements and Amicus Briefs). By virtue of being in the nation’s capital, we have also always held the work of our federal government members in high esteem.

We want to acknowledge the stress and uncertainty that many of our members are facing in this moment. Whether you are directly affected by these policy changes or simply concerned about the direction of our country, please know that you are not alone.

The WBA is here to support you. We remain steadfast in our efforts to educate, advocate, and empower one another. Our strength lies in our collective voice, our shared expertise, and our dedication to justice.

In the face of these challenges, we invite you to stay engaged in our community—whether by connecting with fellow members, accessing resources, or participating in upcoming events that provide opportunities for learning, networking, and support. We will continue to offer programming to support your career and that speaks to the unique position of women in the legal profession and society at large. We will continue in our advocacy efforts that align with our mission.

If there is a program or resource that we can offer that will make an impact, please let us know.
